Sometimes, I write song lyrics… sometimes in Norwegian, sometimes in English. I can’t really think up tunes, but lyrics are fun to do. This is a song I wrote mostly to test out an AI-songwriting tool.

I’m ambivalent about AI, really; I think as a tool it can be quite useful, but a lot of people seem to have as a goal to use it to replace human artists. Which I think is a mistake; get rid of that human element, and you just get a work with no soul.

But I’ll admit, it was pretty fun to write a text and let the AI composer make a tune for it. Of course, none of the tunes were any good, and the synthesized vocals left a lot to be desired, but I can’t deny it was funny to hear them belt out my somewhat ironic lyrics.

I’ll spare you the tunes, but you can have the lyrics:

[Verse 1:]
I was walking down the street, just as happy as a lark,
Didn’t see the open manhole, and fell into the dark!
The fireman came running, and called “are you okay?”,
And I was very sorry for ruining his day.

[Verse 2:]
I was riding on my bike, without a single care,
A truck ran into me, sent me flying through the air!
The doctor in the ER, the worry on her face,
I felt bad for her; she worked in such a hectic place.

[Chorus:]
There are many many people who live in misery.
There are many bitter tears over land and over sea,
There are many many people who live in misery,
But luckily, I can say, none of them are me!

[Verse 3:]
I was driving in my car, just as cheerful as can be,
When I hit a patch of ice, and crashed into a tree!
The policeman came at once with paperwork in hand,
I sighed and thought, poor guy, this isn’t what he planned.

[Verse 4:]
I was chilling in the forest, with no one else around,
When a mugger came up to me and threw me to the ground.
He kicked me while he yelled, and I felt like a heel;
How frustrating for him I had nothing he could steal!

[Chorus:]
There are many many people who live in misery.
There are many bitter tears over land and over sea,
There are many many people who live in misery,
But luckily, I can say, none of them are me!
